Mini Hatch 2006 (56) COOPER S JCW GP - No.636 of 2000 made - FULLY RECOMISSIONED

An appreciating modern classic MINI R53 Cooper S GP1 1.6 Supercharged petrol 6 speed manual. This example registered in September 2006 is number 0636 of 2000 total GP editions produced for markets worldwide, as the last MINI R53 first generation models. 0636 has four former keepers recorded on the V5C registration document with the most recent owner being renowned local BMW MINI specialists Barkers Motor Works of Haslemere, who have maintained the car for its previous owner over the past twelve years. They have recently fully recomissioned the car including the fitment of a new 'out of the box' from MINI replacement engine specifically for the GP versions; Barker's having speculatively purchased the last two remaining new GP engines from BMW parts wholesale, a few years ago. The recomissioning also included the exterior body and paintwork; with a couple of tailgate decals and badges still outstanding on order from MINI. 0636 has a comprehensive folder of service and maintenence invoices providing a documented history file. The GP editions were built in 2006 at the Cowley factory in Oxford as a 'body in white' car, before they were shipped to Bertone in Italy for hand finishing and painting in the unique Thunder Blue Metallic with Pure Silver roof and Chilli Red mirror caps. Bertone remodelled bespoke front and rear bumpers, side skirts, under body panelling, carbon fibre rear spoiler which necessitated repositioning of the high level rear brake light from the top of the tailgate and the deletion of the rear wiper as well as a re-design of the tailgate glass, all to improve aerodynamics, the 18" JCW Cup design alloy wheels were also used for the first time on the GP models, plus the JCW uprated brakes ensured it had the required braking capacity too. The standard steel rear axle trailing arms of the R53 were also removed by Bertone and replaced with lighter and stiffer aluminium units. The three spoke sports leather steering wheel with multi-function also featured cruise control as well as the remote audio controls, 0636 also was manufactured with air conditioning and heated seats which were a customer specified optional extra when new. The interior featured Recaro Sports leather seats in the Panther Black Leather, the GP1 models are two seater only, with a "roll cage" aluminium strut brace for extra rigidity where the rear seat would have been, the interior rear quarter trims were in Tartan Red textured plastic from factory, 0636's last owner had the rear interior custom re-trimmed in alcantara to enhance the interior aesthetic. Of the 2000 examples produced 444 were intended for the UK market. The 1.6 petrol supercharged engines were tuned to 218bhp with 245Nm of torque, which propelled the GP from 0-62mph in 6.5 seconds. The GP model also featured a larger intercoller for the turbo compared to standard R53 models. Having been cherished by its previous owner and undergone a thorough recommissioning by one of the areas renowned BMW MINI specialist workshops, this example is well worth a look.
